When it comes to whiskey drinkers, ice is a serious business. Whiskey and scotch aficionados want a slow-melting ice cube that won’t water down the flavor of their drinks. Since the recent rise of mixology, bartenders are taking their cocktails seriously and ice has become a major component to the perfect cocktail. This has increased the demand for a large ice cube maker in Kansas and Missouri-based bars.
Let’s talk about the benefits of a square cube ice machine.
Why Square Ice Cubes are a Favorite Among Cocktail Lovers
Hoshizaki and Manitowoc make some of the most dependable ice machines on the market. Popular ice shapes such as crescent ice and half-dice ice are a great fit for many restaurants, including fast-casual and quick-serve establishments. The reason these smaller cubes are so popular is that they help reduce spills and displace a lot of liquid, which makes drinks look fuller. Despite how useful smaller cubes are, whiskey and cocktail lovers prefer big, square ice cubes.
Cocktail lovers prefer a square ice cube because they keep drinks cooler for longer and don’t water down expensive spirits that are better savored. Since large ice cubes take time to freeze, high-volume bars need a large ice cube maker to quickly produce the ice they need to serve customers throughout the day.
Hoshizaki and Manitowoc both have square ice cube machines that produce enough large, square ice cubes in a day to satisfy mid to large-sized crowds.
The Types of Square Ice Cube Makers
Hoshizaki produces two popular square cube ice machines: the Hoshizaki IM-200BAB ice machine and the Hoshizaki IM-500SAA ice machine. Both dispense their IM-style cubes which are solid, square cubes that measure 1” X 1” X 1.25”.
The IM-200 Hoshizaki ice maker is an undercounter ice machine that produces 200 lbs of ice a day. This machine is also self-contained, so you don’t need a Hoshizaki ice bin to collect the ice. This model measures 33” high, which classifies it as an ADA ice maker as well. The IM-200 is a great choice so bartenders don’t have to go far to get ice for patrons.
The IM-500 large ice cube maker produces the same IM cube as the IM-200 but at a higher production output of 500 lbs of ice a day. This model is a stackable ice machine that allows users to install 3 units on top of one another for bars that use 1000 – 1500 lbs of ice per day. This model is not self-contained, so it requires an ice bin to store the ice. Since it requires a bin, it will not fit underneath a countertop.
The Manitowoc IR-series makes large, square ice cubes that deliver between 500-1900 lbs of ice a day. The IR-series produces 1 1/8” x 1 1/8” x 7/8” rectangular cubes call “Regular cubes” and includes machines like the Manitowoc IRF-0900A ice machine.
